Sat Market · a lecture
Same groceries, same house, same paycheck. A different ruler. A short talk with live numbers from our database (U.S. averages).

Think of cents: a dollar is 100 of them. A bitcoin is 100 million sats, so prices in sats are whole numbers people can read. The rest of this talk asks one question: if we price things in sats instead of dollars, what do we learn?

Green = cheaper, red = pricier. In sats, prices fall because each sat has bought more as bitcoin's price rose. Bitcoin has also been very volatile (see the last slide), so this is a measuring stick, not a promise. Sources: BLS, FRED, The Economist, company price lists; see /goods.
3 · Stocks, in sats
90% are up in sats over the last year and 6% are down; 40% are up in sats over five years and 52% are down. When bitcoin falls, almost everything priced in sats rises, and the reverse.

A spot bitcoin fund like IBIT is bitcoin in a wrapper: nearly flat in sats. The broad stock market only partly moves with bitcoin (SPY: 0.50), so priced in sats it swings 40% a year, bitcoin itself 45%. Data to 2026-10-08; 5,296 tickers. Explore
$1,000 every month, 2015-08 → 2026-10-09 (135 months, $135,000 in). Pre-tax; the S&P 500 is the FRED price index (to 2026-09) plus an assumed 1.5%/yr reinvested dividend yield. Hindsight: the first purchase bought bitcoin at $281.53; a later start looks very different. Drawdowns use monthly samples, so they understate bitcoin's daily swings.
